MASSES Of Pigeons....

....probably flew over the patch today...

I was at work from 7am, so saw about 30 in all. But looking HERE and HERE, I'm sure we had many thousands (and least) go over. Bloody typical isn't it - any other day of the week I could just stand there and count them....except Sunday. Flipping hate Sundays.

One more link I want to post - THESE cracking photos of a 'presumed' Thayer's Gull found and photographed by Steve Arlow in Essex.... Now that's what I call a bird - YUMMMMMMMMY :-)

  2. Just 5 or 6 miles to the east of your patch at Rhode Hill, Uplyme there was the largest passage of wood pigeons that I have seen at this site in 22 years. The peak of the passage was between 10:00 and 11:30 when flocks passed over continuously. I've counted wood pigeon movement here in previous years with peaks of 4 or 5,000 but never in number like on 7th. I estimated at least 10,000 passed over in a mainly just south of westly direction.

  3. Hi John,

That's very interesting - and an excellent count. I feel even worse for missing it all now! Also I assume any birds that pass over here are different from any you see (being a little in land). Some seem to follow the coast - others just don't!
