Does This Mean It's Winter...

Wigeon!

These three were opposite Coronation Corner late morning, and again late this afternoon. Also on the river today.... well, not much! Eight Green Sands were on Colyford Marsh along with two Blackwits and three Yellow Wags flew over Seaton Marshes this evening.

Today's highlight though was a twitch. Hearing the Wilson's Phalarope was showing at Exminster Marshes ensured I went rushing off here.... well four hours later I did anyway! I picked Gav up at about 13:15 at headed west. Here's the back of Gav (and my scope!) on Exminster Marshes - a rarity in itself!...

That's one BIG marsh!!!

This was the edge of the scrape we were looking at

And this is what we were looking at...

Crap pictures, but....

An AWESOME bird! It was a lifer for me, but I wish it was on the Axe! The way it walked and fed was so entertaining, almost snob-like! Picking elegantly at flies in a very regal way!

Last night I had the trap out in the back garden. Caught 90 moths of 12 species. The only first for the garden was this...

Green Carpet

Other moths caught include: 47 Large Yellow Underwing, 21 Setaceous Hebrew Character, 6 Vine's Rustic, 4 Silver Y, 3 Lesser Yellow Underwing, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, 2 Small Square-spot, and singles of: Purple Bar, Brimstone, Square-spot Rustic and Common Marbled Carpet.

Micro moths are a mine field, so I don't really look at them. I did though notice a couple of Rush Veener and this....

Garden Pebble

Am working most of tomorrow, but hope to be out and about a little in the evening. There is a Glossy Ibis out there somewhere with the River Axe punched into its on board Sat Nav...
